Today is a good day. Yesterday I was checking the Craigslist motorcycles listing for anything of interest. I happened across an ad for a small RD350/400 parts lot. The ad listed some large carbs, clutch basket, RD400 rims and DG expansion chambers.
All for 200$.
I now have some black powder coated RD400 rims as well as DG expansion chambers for the R350 project. I most likely won’t use the rims but they are nice and I hope to recoup the cost of the other parts by selling the rims. They are also a bit heavier than the laced rims and I really want to remove weight, not add it.
The bonus: There was a set of pristine chain tensioners hidden in the bottom of the box. So now I can replace my rusted ones.
The chambers have a little rust but nothing a little sandblasting/grinding won’t remove. With only a small dent in the bottom of the right tube this is a great deal.
These are the rims. Based on the stamp on the rims there from the 1976 RD400. They are very nice but I don’t know what I am going to do with them yet.
It has been a good day.
